Bedford incorporated as a general law city on Octoberber 1957 with a total population of 1,700. During the next seven years, the population increased. The advent of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in 1974 contributed dramatically to the growth of Bedford and the Mid-Cities area in the years to follow.
